 Affordable Storage for Cobot-Powered Shops

Collaborative robots are changing how small shops work. They are safe, flexible, and easy to set up. But many shops that buy a cobot forget about one thing: how to feed it parts. Without a good storage system, a worker still needs to stand next to the cobot and hand it parts one by one. This defeats the whole purpose of automation.

 

The Economical Collaborative Robot Multi-Layer Storage System fixes this at a price that makes sense for small businesses. It holds up to 10 trays of parts. The cobot picks from one tray at a time. When a tray is empty, the system automatically moves the next tray into position. The worker only needs to load all the trays at the start of the shift and then check every hour or two. One person can now support multiple cobots instead of standing next to just one.

 

A customer of ours makes electronic connectors. They have eight cobots on their assembly line. Before, they had one worker assigned to each cobot just to feed parts. This system uses a Guangdong Gumei PLC with a 7-inch touch screen. The controls are simple and easy to learn. The lift uses Inovance servo motors with Shinpo reducers. Running is smooth and quiet – perfect for the quiet environment around a cobot. The tray spacing and limit fixtures can be adjusted manually. Changeover between different parts takes only minutes. Just adjust the tray spacing and limit fixtures, update a few parameters on the screen, and you are ready for the next product.
