Unmanned Material Flow from Warehouse to Production Line
In a fully automated factory, the biggest challenge is often not the machines or the robots – it is the material flow. Robots can load and unload themselves. CNC machines can run all night. But getting material from the warehouse to the production line still needs people. Someone must drive a forklift or push a cart full of parts across the workshop. This is the weak link in the automation chain.
The High-End AGV Multi-Layer Storage System closes this gap. It connects directly to your AGV fleet. The AGV brings raw material to the magazine. The AGV cart automatically identifies and transfers the material. The magazine then stores it in layers and feeds it to the robot on demand. When parts are finished, the robot puts them back on the trays. The AGV comes and picks them up to take to the next station. There is no manual work at any step.
One automotive parts customer was struggling with material flow across their 5,000-square-meter workshop. They had four workers driving forklifts just to move material. These workers often arrived late at the machine, causing the machine to sit idle. After installing our High-End AGV Multi-Layer Storage System, the AGVs handle all material movement. The four forklift drivers were moved to other roles. The material arrives at every machine exactly on time. The workshop manager told us they saved over CNY 400,000 per year in labor costs alone.
The system uses a Siemens PLC and a 7-inch touch screen. It has a detection system that checks part placement, detects overlapping parts, misalignment, and empty layers. It stops the machine and alarms if it finds a problem. This prevents empty grabs, dropped parts, and docking errors. The lift uses servo motors with precision reducers. Positioning accuracy is ±0.25 mm. The frame is reinforced for frequent AGV docking. The working temperature range is -10°C to 45°C. Safety features include AGV docking interlocks, lift limits, overload protection, area protection, and emergency stops. The magazine will not move unless the AGV is fully docked and the detection switch is triggered. The AGV cannot dock while the magazine is lifting. This removes all risk of interference and collision.
